Democracy works only when enough of us believe democracy works. It’s up to all of us to reckon with our shared creed — the values and ideals that hold us together — and why this creed is worth believing in.
Those of us who believe in democracy and believe it is still possible, we have the burden of proving it. Hard as it is, though, delivering on this promise is purposeful work. It is the truest definition of the pursuit of happiness.
