Deborah Fallows is a writer and a linguist. She has written on language, education, families and work, China, and travel for The Atlantic, National Geographic, Slate, and The New York Times. Her latest book is Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin lessons in Life, Love, and Language. Previously, she was with the Pew Research Center, reporting on internet use in the US and China, and before that was Assistant Director of Admissions at Georgetown University. Since 2013 she and her husband James have been writing about American resilience in their “American Futures” project.
